UEAPME comments EU Area for Skills and Qualifications

UEAPME published its position paper on the EC consultation regarding a “European Area for Skills and Qualifications”, aimed at increasing transparency and recognition of skills and qualifications of learners and workers when moving within and between Member States.

While UEAPME endorses the consultation’s objectives, there are concerns about the process and methodology, where a stronger consideration for Craft and SMEs’ skill needs should be applied. According to UEAPME, the focus should be for Member States to fully implement existing transparency instruments and for the EU to accompany this process and ensure greater consistency. In addition, UEAPME regards that more efforts are needed to ensure better learning outcomes and employability, fostering permeability between different educational systems, and boosting learning and occupational mobility. Finally, on internationalisation the impact of digital learning on continuous training and on certain trades and sectors should be further explored.
